For formal evenings use a classical, possibly embroidered top. For dance events, choose a swinging shirt. The other accessories should be chosen according to the event.

Personal experience: The skirt has many advantages: it has a great cut, it is simple, yet elegant; it can be combined with almost anything you desire, but most of all it is very easy in its care.
